Mrs. Nancy Prince, Louisa Picquet

I would like to explore the life of either Nancy Prince or Louisa Picquet. Nancy Prince published her narrative herself which I found in Collected Black Women's Narratives (snatched it at Green Library today 😎). From what I gathered just by looking through the table of contents, Nancy Prince has an interesting narrative as she was born free and traveled to Russia and other locations overseas. She published the second addition of her narrative in 1853. As for Louisa Picquet, her narrative was written by pastor Hiram Mattison and published in 1861, and I'm not completely sure if she has any writings that come directly from herself. As of right now, I'm leaning toward Nancy Prince, because her narrative offers another perspective of Black women's lives during the 1800's. Specifically, I want to learn the ways in which she identifies with slave history and its impacts on her family despite not being directly involved in the system herself. I think this will be an important addition to analyses of how history tends to follow and impact us, consciously or otherwise, even if we have no direct interaction with it.

Also, for folks doing Bethany Veney or Susie King Taylor, I got you fam, this book has those narratives included as well.
